How to Choose Tools for CNC Gantry Drilling machine?
Time : 2024-12-19

In drilling processing, improving production efficiency and product quality, reducing costs, and reducing tool wear are issues that producers are concerned about. Choosing a CNC drilling machine for plate with good cost performance, matching the correct processing technology, and choosing the right tool can perfectly solve this problem.

1. Choose according to processing efficiency

In the past, most users used ordinary high-speed steel twist drills. High-speed steel twist drills have low cost, wide application range, and convenient grinding, which is also the main reason why they have been used to. However, the cutting line speed of the twist drill restricts its rotation speed. The larger the diameter, the lower the rotation speed, and the finish of the drilled hole is poor; the characteristics of carbide tools are high temperature resistance, good wear resistance, high hardness, suitable for high-speed drilling, high processing efficiency, good precision, and high finish of the drilled hole. Its disadvantage is that the price is high, and the blade cannot be repeatedly ground and used after damage.

Suggestion: Ordinary CNC gantry drilling machine can be used because of the speed limit of the equipment itself. If higher production efficiency and hole precision are required, it is necessary to choose a high-speed gantry CNC drilling machine and use a carbide drill with high-pressure internal cooling drill bit to control the overall cost.

2. Choose according to the drilling depth

For holes with a drilling depth/drilling diameter ≤5, users can use carbide drills with indexable inserts. This type of drill is highly efficient, relatively low cost, and has a high finish. For some deeper holes, you can use a solid carbide twist drill or a BTA drill with center chip removal.

3. Choose according to the material of the workpiece

If the material hardness is high, it is recommended that users use carbide drills with indexable inserts; if the material is sticky and not easy to break, it is recommended that users use a solid carbide chip-breaking drill;

4. Choose according to the spindle taper

For spindles with Morse taper holes, only high-speed steel twist drills can be selected; for spindle taper holes with a taper of 7:24 and automatic broaching, various tools including twist drills can be selected.
